“I saw people and heard gunshots, and my first thought was, 'Oh my God, is this another mass shooting!?' said witness Nikki Tate.

She and her daughter lay on the ground until they could get out of the store through a side door.

“I didn’t know if these were random shots or if it was a mass shooting. Everything was happening so fast, I just wanted me and my baby to be safe,” she said.

Police said they started their own investigation. The officer’s weapon was the only weapon found at the scene of the incident. The police said that the two men (killed and the officer) did not know each other.
