The USA will help the Baltics to fight Russian propaganda

The US Embassy in Lithuania provides a grant in the amount of five hundred thousand dollars for Russian-speaking journalists who are invited to take part in a training course in investigative journalism in order to counter Russian propaganda. This is stated in the message on the website of the US Embassy in Lithuania.

As noted, the project is designed for a year (until November 30, 2016) and is called “Training on investigative journalism to counter Russian information activities in the Baltic countries.”

The embassy in Lithuania will coordinate the educational process, although the announcement of the grant itself is posted on behalf of the embassies in the three Baltic countries.

“As Russian propaganda and disinformation proliferate, media outlets in all three countries need the skills and tools to counter-compelling, fact-based news journalism,” the embassy in Lithuania said in a statement.

Earlier it was reported that the Baltic countries have initiated the creation of Russian-language television to counter Russian propaganda.

Russian media very often filed information about events in Ukraine, twisting the facts.

In the spring of this year, the heads of the European Union approved the creation of a strategy to combat propaganda about the conflict in Ukraine, coming from Russia.

“We (EU member states – ed.) have emphasized the need to counter Russia’s campaign of massive public disinformation about the conflict in Ukraine.
