The United States will deploy high-precision weapons in the Pacific to deter Russia and China

US ground forces intend to deploy new units on the Pacific islands to neutralize the capabilities of the Chinese and Russian armed forces, Bloomberg reports citing Ryan McCarthy, head of the federal agency managing the affairs of the US army.

According to the official, it is about creating special forces capable of conducting cyber attacks and information warfare, as well as striking at sea and ground targets with the help of hypersonic missiles and other types of long-range high-precision weapons. According to McCarthy, the deployment of such units on the islands east of Taiwan and the Philippines will allow ground units to pave the way for the US Navy and Air Force.

“This step is designed to neutralize all investments already made by China and Russia,” said McCarthy. According to him, the deployment of new army units in the Pacific Ocean will be accompanied by the strengthening of cooperation with the National Reconnaissance Office, NRO, due to which special forces will be able to quickly receive data from satellites.

Bloomberg notes that China’s military doctrine is based on a counter-strategy, in which it is planned to keep US carrier strike groups away from Chinese shores by threat of using long-range anti-ship missiles. Fearing attacks, aircraft carriers should not cross the “first and second chain of islands,” extending to Guam, Kalimantan and New Guinea. However, the appearance on the islands of ground units can change the balance of power. According to McCarthy, this will create a new paradigm in the Pacific Ocean and will allow to "punch a hole" in the defense of China.

According to Bloomberg, such a move is consistent with the plans of the Pentagon’s head, Mark Esper, to transfer forces to the Pacific from Europe, Africa and the Middle East to strengthen US military capabilities in the confrontation with China and Russia.
