US imposed trade restrictions against 45 Russian companies

The US Department of Commerce has released a list of companies and institutions in Russia and China against which restrictions were imposed. These companies cooperate with the armed forces of their countries, so they are prohibited from buying a number of American products and technologies. The Russian list includes 45 organizations and government agencies, including: the Foreign Intelligence Service, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the Russian special flight unit, the Progress Rocket and Space Center (Roscosmos), the Russian Helicopters Holding, the Rostec State Corporation and the United Aviation corporation (UAC).

“The U.S. Department of Commerce recognizes the importance of working with U.S. and global companies to combat efforts by China and Russia to co-opt U.S. technology in their destabilizing military programs,” said Department Commissioner Wilbur Ross.

The list is intended to inform American exporters and re-exporters of American products about the need to obtain a license to deliver certain products and technologies to listed companies and organizations.

The reaction of Russia

The press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said that with the help of sanctions against Russian organizations, the US administration is trying to "kick the already in bad shape Russian-American relations," writes RBC.

“This is another hostile step towards Russia. We can only regret that the next outgoing US administration prefers to kick the Russian-American relations, which are already in bad shape, ”said Peskov.

The press secretary of Russian President Vladimir Putin said that each such "kick" alienates the countries from normalizing relations and makes it extremely difficult to break the "tailspin" of relations.

Rostec said that the new restrictions were another round of unfriendly actions on the part of the United States and an additional incentive to work better.

The head of Roscosmos, Dmitry Rogozin, believes that the sanctions are illegal and stupid. He stated that they create additional obstacles in cooperation between Russia and the United States. He drew attention to the fact that the Progress rocket and space center, where the Soyuz-2 launch vehicles that deliver the spacecraft with the astronauts to the ISS, were made, fell under the sanctions. He demanded that Washington lift the restrictions.
