American authorities believe that Iraskhanov is involved in gross violations of human rights and is likely responsible for the extrajudicial execution of 27 people in Chechnya, writes “New Paper«.

“We note with concern the continuing gross violations of human rights in Chechnya, which include widespread cases of extrajudicial killings, torture, enforced disappearances and arbitrary detentions by state authorities,” the State Department said in a statement.

As noted in the statement, the Russian authorities are not taking adequate steps to prosecute or punish officials involved in these violations. According to the US authorities, this creates an atmosphere of impunity in the country.

According to Tatyana Moskalkova, human rights ombudsman, she received information on executions in Chechnya from Novaya Gazeta in March 2017, reported it to the president and sent a request to the Investigative Committee.

The UK refused to institute criminal proceedings regarding the disappearance of 27 people, about whose execution Novaya Gazeta wrote. According to Moskalkova, the case was brought against the citizens named in the list “as having left for ISIS” (a terrorist organization banned in Russia).
