US imposes new sanctions against Russia over Syria
Washington imposed sanctions against a Russian company, three citizens and five courts. This is stated in the press release of the US Department of Finance, writes RIA News".

According to the department’s statement, the reason for this was their participation in a scheme created “to ensure the delivery of aviation fuel to the Russian military operating in Syria.”
In particular, the list includes the Russian company Maritime Assistance LLC, associated with the previously sanctioned Sovfracht company.
“In addition to this, sanctions have now been imposed on the property of the Russian company Transpetrochart Co Ltd, which provided Sovfracht with material support,” the statement said.
Sanctions were imposed against the director of the maritime transport department of Sovfracht Ivan Okorokov, his first deputy Karen Stepanyan and deputy director for legal issues Ilya Loginov.

“The three individuals sanctioned today were charged in June 2018 by the Department of Justice, following an FBI investigation, with conspiracy to violate economic sanctions and directing an illegal scheme,” the Treasury Department said.
The department considers the named persons to be “leading managers of Sovfracht” who managed the activities of Maritime Assistance LLC.
The restrictions included the vessels OT-2077, Passat, Whitefish, Sudak and Yaz, owned by Transpetrochart.
The expansion of sanctions was commented by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
“As part of our maximum pressure campaign (on Syria), the Treasury Department has sanctioned Russian companies for supporting Assad’s brutal war machine and supplying oil to Russian military forces in Syria,” the department head said.

Moscow considers the new American restrictive measures absolutely unacceptable.
As Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin told reporters, these actions continue the old American policy, “which is based on unilateral sanctions.”
