The United States does not recommend its citizens to travel to Russia

At the beginning of 2018, the US State Department simplified the classification system of countries for their safety for American tourists.

According to the new system, each country receives from 1 to 4 points, writes USA Today.

A score of 1 means that tourists in the country should take normal precautions; 2 points - increased precautions; 3 points - a sign for travelers to reconsider their travel decision; 4 points - a recommendation not to travel to this country because it is dangerous for Americans.

Specific threats are now designated by letters: C for felonies; T - for terrorism; U is for civil unrest; H - health risks, N - natural disasters, E - time-limited events that may cause increased danger in the country; O - other.

The changes were made because it was difficult for travelers to understand the previous warning system.

Reassessments for countries with 1 and 2 points will be carried out once a year, and for countries with 3 or 4 points - every 6 months. But scores may change throughout the year depending on events in the country.

The State Department cannot forbid travelers from the United States from visiting any of these countries, but makes recommendations. The only exception is North Korea, which is strictly prohibited for US citizens to visit.
