US convicted businessman from Russia to finance election intervention

Four American citizens raised funds from a Russian businessman, whose name has not yet been disclosed, to finance federal election campaigns in the United States. Prosecutors have already indicted them.

The Southern District of New York State Prosecutor has charged four Americans with conspiracy to raise funds from a businessman from Russia to finance election campaigns in the United States. It is reported RBC citing an article in The New York Times.

It follows from the indictment of the supervisory authority that the charges were brought against American citizens, immigrants from the Ukrainian and Byelorussian SSR Lev Parnassus, Igor Fruman and Andrei Kukushkin, as well as American businessman David Correia. They attracted money of an entrepreneur with Russian citizenship (his name was not disclosed, in the opinion of the prosecutor's office he was designated as Foreign National-1).

“He was not a U.S. citizen at all times relevant to the case,” the prosecutor’s document said. It also states that the Russian businessman did not live in the United States at that time.

Since March 2018, Parnassus and Fruman began attending pre-election fundraising events and making contributions to fundraising committees for campaigns to increase the influence of individual candidates in federal elections. To hide the sources of their financing from third parties, they created the company Global Energy Producers and entered into all payment documents its details, and not their names. From June 2018 to April 2019, according to prosecutors, all four tried to transfer the Russian money to certain American politicians and candidates for various posts (names were not disclosed).

The defendants kept in touch with a Russian businessman and raised his money to carry out lobbying campaigns in the interests of their business in the United States.

In response to a request Rider Giuliani said of the comment that he had “nothing to do” with the cash flow that was at the center of the Parnassus and Fruman case.
