The United States recognized the natives of the Kuril Islands as Japanese: Russia is outraged
The US Department of State now considers people born in the South Kuril Islands to be Japanese natives, writes "Ukrainian Truth".
In response, Russia called on the United States to “know the red lines.”
What happened?
В instructions for those wishing to participate in the Diversity Visa program, it is noted that people born on the islands of Habomai, Shikotan, Kunashir and Iturup belong to Japan. And persons born in South Sakhalin belong to Russia.
Because of this position of the State Department, the Russian Foreign Ministry accused the United States of allegedly questioning the outcome of the Second World War and encouraging revanchism.

Let us recall that Japan claims the islands of the South Kuril ridge according to the Treaty on Trade and Borders of 1855. In Japan, the territorial dispute with the Russian Federation is officially called the “Northern Territories” issue. At the same time, Russia insists that the Kuril Islands became part of the USSR as a result of the Second World War.
