The United States threatened Ukraine with cessation of financial support

US Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew reminded the Ukrainian government of the possibility of “undermining international financial support” of Ukraine if the country does not fulfill its obligations to the International Monetary Fund.

The head of the financial department of the United States said this in a telephone conversation with the Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk, according to a message on the page Ministry of Finance of Ukraine in the social network Facebook.

“Lew stressed the urgency of Ukraine fulfilling its obligations to the IMF and recalled the risks of undermining critical international support if the Verkhovna Rada delays this work until next year. Minister Lew said that the adoption of a fiscally sustainable budget as soon as possible is critical to maintaining economic stability and for the continued provision of financial assistance from the IMF and other international partners of Ukraine,” the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine said in a statement.

It is also noted that the head of the US financial department discussed with the Ukrainian prime minister the economic situation in Ukraine and the reforms being carried out in the country.

As the “Forum” wrote, Ukraine ranked first among the poorest countries in Europe in the ranking of the Swiss bank Creduit Suisse.
