The United States will provide Israel with record military assistance

The authorities of the United States and Israel have agreed to extend the program of providing the Jewish state with US military assistance in the amount of $ 38 billion.

This is a record amount in the history of US military deals, writes USA Today.

For the implementation of the agreement, which is expected to be signed in the coming days, Washington will spend at least $ 10 billion during 38 years.

According to the agreement, Israel will receive at least $ 3,8 billion a year over 10 years. Under the current agreement, which expires in the 2018 year, the United States provides Israel with assistance of $ 3,1 billion per year.

In order to conclude a treaty, Israel had to make a number of concessions.

In particular, the Prime Minister of the Jewish state, Benjamin Netanyahu, pledged not to request additional assistance. He also refused a special agreement, which previously allowed to spend part of the funds received from Washington to finance its own defense industry instead of purchasing American weapons.

The transfer of funds to Israel will be made under the program of foreign military financing (Foreign Military Financing). According to it, the Jewish state in 1998-2007 received, on average, $ 2,4 billion per year, and for the period from 2008 to 2017, an agreement was reached on annual transfer of $ 2,9-3,1 billion.

The United States has been providing annual military aid to Israel since 1987. At the same time, the program of arms supplies to this country is the largest of all similar programs currently being implemented by the United States.
