US promises to provide Ukraine with more 100 Humvee armored vehicles
In mid-July, Ukraine will receive another 100 Humvee armored vehicles. According to the press service of the Pentagon, US Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter yesterday met with his Ukrainian counterpart Stepan Poltorak in Brussels, at a meeting of NATO defense ministers.
This was the first meeting of the ministers of the two countries. They discussed the topic of Russian aggression in the east of Ukraine. Carter expressed his respect for Ukraine’s efforts to implement the Minsk Agreements, despite Russia's destabilizing actions.
The American minister stressed that the United States and allies remain determined to support Ukraine in its efforts to determine its path as a sovereign and democratic country.
“The parties reviewed ongoing United States security assistance to the Ukrainian Armed Forces and Border Guard Service, including the delivery of an additional 100 Humvee armored vehicles in mid-July and continued training of Ukrainian National Guard forces in Yavorov,” the statement said.
Carter reaffirmed the US commitment to continue defense cooperation with Ukraine, including through annual bilateral and multilateral military exercises.
