The waiting time for US visas in Russia has grown to 300 days

According to US Consul General in Russia Lawrence Toby, the number of Russians willing to emigrate is increasing.

In the near future, the US Embassy will not be able to significantly expand the number of interviews conducted for issuing visas (and their waiting period increased to 300 days). After the closure of the consulate general in St. Petersburg, the burden on the consular department increased - thousands of people are waiting for US visas. In a conversation with NG correspondent Alexei GORBACHEV, US Consul General in Russia Lawrence TOBI explained why it is again difficult in Russia to sign up for visa interviews, and told how many people were able to get US immigration and non-immigration visas.

The number of Russians wishing to emigrate to America, according to the Consul General, continues to grow.

“Yes, it continues to grow,” said the consul. — The categories of people who can apply for this type of visa are determined by US laws. Basically, we are talking about family emigration, when one of the family members lives in the United States, about leaving for work in the United States, and about a program for providing residence permits to representatives of various nationalities based on the results of a lottery organized by the government. Interest in the above types of immigrant visas has increased significantly.”

Speaking about how many immigrant and non-immigrant visas the embassy issues, Lawrence Tobey noted: “A total of 2017 immigrant visas were issued in 3681. And in 2018, as of today, that is, only in the first four months, 1846 immigrant visas have already been issued.”

The US diplomatic mission in Russia also issued 32 non-immigrant visas in the first four months of this year, he added. “If we talk about statistics for each of our consulates, the consular department at the embassy in Moscow issued 877 non-immigrant visas during this period, the consulate general in St. Petersburg - 17, in Yekaterinburg - 796, in Vladivostok - 5882.”
