Average salary of $ 150 per year: Amazon hires tens of thousands of new employees

An Amazon spokesperson told CNN Business that employees in corporate and technical roles will earn an average of $150 a year, an amount that includes salary, stock-based compensation and benefits.

“With many people unemployed due to the economic impacts of COVID-19 and looking for new jobs, Career Day is designed to support all job seekers, regardless of their level of experience, professional field or background. The company conducted a survey and found that 53% of Americans were forced to seek new jobs due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In August, Amazon said it plans to hire 3500 additional employees in cities across the US, prompting the tech giant to expand its office space significantly, while other tech companies are using telecommuting indefinitely. Amazon also announced the opening of a new smart device grocery store.

The tech company is reportedly in talks with Simon Property Group, the largest mall owner in the United States, to convert former or current JCPenney and Sears stores into parcel distribution centers.

Amazon shares are up 77% year over year. Typically, the company announces hundreds of thousands of new vacancies over the holidays, but it's unclear if hiring will spike again this year. Amazon has already hired over 175 people in the state during the coronavirus pandemic to meet the growing demand for shipping.

UPS is also focusing on hiring employees during a pandemic.

“We plan to hire more than 100 people for seasonal roles at UPS and expect many of them to transition to permanent positions after the holidays,” the company said on Wednesday, September 000.
