Speaker of the Federation Council of Russia, Valentina Matvienko, canceled a trip to the United States, where she was supposed to take part in a meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

The RIA Novosti news agency in the Federation Council said that the decision on the US visa for Matvienko has not yet been made, but the trip will not be able to take place. The US Embassy also confirmed that the visa application for the Speaker of the Federation Council is still under consideration.

At the same time, Komsomolskaya Pravda correspondent Dmitry Smirnov reported that the United States denied a visa to Valentina Matvienko. This information was confirmed to Interfax by several sources in the upper house of the Russian parliament.

At the same time, according to the agency interlocutors, all other members of the delegation received a visa for a trip to the USA a month ago.

Valentina Matvienko is included in the sanctions list of the United States, according to which she is denied entry into the country.
