Trader Joe's is known for the lucrative seasonal offerings of frozen foods. Edition Insider Talked to nine chefs at several restaurants and told them which products from this category should be noted in Trader Joe's.
Organic Wild Blueberries
Organic Wild Blueberries are the perfect complement to a morning smoothie. Jonathan Olson, The Keep Chef in Columbus, Ohio, said he often buys this product at Trader Joe's.
“I always have Trader Joe's blueberries in my freezer. I like to mix it with banana, almond milk and a little honey and herbs. It's a great way to start the day,” says Olson.
Tamale
Trader Joe's sell really high quality tamales. In the frozen version, this product does not lose quality. Chef Wilson Davalos from CLMDO in San Juan, Puerto Rico says he loves to buy frozen tamales with cheese and chili.
“These tamales are light and airy with a sweet flavor. They are stuffed with mild green chillies. “I always add a little hot sauce on top—that’s my favorite way to eat them,” says the chef.
Mandarin Orange Chicken
Chef Roel Gabriel from Amici Ristobar Restaurant in San Diego, California is a big fan of this product.
“You don't have to fry the chicken. The nuggets can be thrown into the fryer and then topped with sauce. Then I add steamed vegetables. Mandarine Orange Chicken works great in this dish. If you add some steamed rice, it’s a complete meal,” says Gabrielle.
