The United States has the utmost respect for the spirit of unity in the struggle for independence demonstrated by the Ukrainians immortalized on this memorial wall. “The United States participated in two world wars on the European continent. That's why we created NATO after World War II to make sure that World War III didn't break out in Europe. So I am confident that there is a serious interest in the United States in what is happening between Ukraine and Russia,” Bolton said.

“We are very concerned about this. There are several NATO allies in the Black Sea who are also part of this. We expect continued access to the entire Black Sea area, both for states and for trade. It’s the same with the Baltic and the Arctic. This is an issue that has been quite difficult for us to discuss with Russia, as in other areas where they try to seize more than is in the area of ​​their legitimate interests,” the adviser added.

He also did not pass over the issue of cooperation between Ukraine and the United States.

“The United States will not stop defending its interests and the interests of friends and allies around the world. I think there is already support - joint operations, our ships that enter the Black Sea. I think we will continue the military cooperation that we have seen over the past few years... From my perspective, our two militaries are closely linked, and that link is getting stronger,” Bolton said.

Also, an adviser to the US president expressed his opinion on the situation in the Donbass.

“The UN is, of course, one of the options that Ukraine can consider, but you need to pay attention to the fact that sometimes UN peacekeeping missions are frozen, it turns out that they become permanent. You need to be careful before starting this mechanism. The UN creates peacekeeping missions, then they continue endlessly,” he noted.

“It is clear that Ukraine is considering all available options to resolve differences with Russia. But if you want to solve them in some adequate time, it’s worth considering whether UN peacekeepers are needed,” said the adviser to the US President.

The meeting was dedicated to discussing priority measures to strengthen strategic partnership between Ukraine and the United States, in particular, the preparation of bilateral negotiations at the level of heads of state.

“Vladimir Zelensky thanked the American side for its strong support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, consistent official policy towards Crimea and efforts aimed at achieving progress in a peaceful settlement in Donbass,” Zelensky’s press service said in a statement.

The President of Ukraine expressed hope that the United States will be able to more actively participate in the negotiation process regarding the Donbass. He noted that Ukraine would welcome the United States joining the Norman format.

Vladimir Zelensky noted the importance of a consolidated position of the United States and other partners of Ukraine to ensure the release of Ukrainian sailors and other illegally detained citizens of Ukraine in Russia.
