The Department of Homeland Security is conducting polygraph tests on its personnel to determine who might be leaking information to the media about upcoming immigration raids, a department spokesman explained in a March 8 comment to CBS News.

On February 18, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced that she would use polygraph tests on employees to prevent information leaks.
In a video posted to social media on March 8, Noem said the department "identified two informants who were tipping off outsiders about pending operations and endangering the lives of law enforcement officers. We are committed to holding these two individuals accountable and punishing them for their actions."

A department spokesman told CBS News that polygraph tests have been underway for about three weeks. It is unclear how many officers have taken them.
Since January, the White House has been actively fulfilling President Trump's campaign promise to combat illegal immigration and organize mass deportations of illegal immigrants.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the department’s agency that arrests immigrants inside the country, has been conducting raids across the U.S. Thousands have already been detained. Noem announced last week that more than 20 illegal immigrants had been arrested in February.
Several other agencies, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Drug Enforcement Administration, have been tasked with delegating personnel to support these efforts.

The Trump administration also reversed a Biden-era policy that prohibited immigration agents from making arrests near schools, places of worship, and other high-security locations, a decision that is now being challenged in court.
In late January, Noem told CBS News that filming and publishing ICE immigration raids was an "accountable measure."
"This is not a show," Noem said. "This is law enforcement in our country."
