In Ukraine, the former head of the sector of the State Scientific and Control Institute of Biotechnology and Microorganism Strains stole a dangerous strain of avian virus from a scientific institution. The woman kept it in a regular refrigerator at home and then planned to sell it. Writes about it New Time.
During the investigation, it was found that the woman, while working at the institute, had access to dangerous strains of viruses that are causative agents of infectious animal diseases and can quickly spread on a large scale. Law enforcers found out that she stole a dangerous strain of the Newcastle bird disease virus.
To hide the traces of the crime, she violated the method of obtaining the main seed culture of viruses.

“That is, she deliberately reduced the number of initial samples to obtain a new passage - infection of a sensitive cell in order to obtain a new population of the virus from it, did not return them to the storage of microorganisms, and appropriated part of the material,” says the press service of the office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine .
The woman kept this virus strain at home in an ordinary refrigerator. She planned to sell it in the future. The investigation is still ongoing.
