A ranking of the best passports in the world has been compiled: what places did 'our' countries take
Which travel document opens more doors around the world than any other? This is a Japan passport. Passport Index Henley, which periodically compiles the ranking of the most travel-friendly passports in the world, published its first report in the new decade, writes CNN.
In the new list, Japan has a leading position, offering visa-free entry (or the option "visa at the airport") in 191 destinations around the world. Asia dominates the top of the list: Singapore is second, with a score of 190. The third is divided by South Korea and Germany with a score of 189.
European countries show strong results in the remainder of the top ten: Finland and Spain - fourth, Spain, Luxembourg and Denmark - fifth, and Sweden and France - sixth.
Meanwhile, the US and the UK continue to decline in the ranking. In 2020, they occupy the eighth joint place - far from the first, which they jointly held five years ago, in 2015.
The UAE represents the largest success story in the ranking for the last decade, having risen to 47 places during this time, now the country takes 18th place with 171 points.
“Countries that are embracing this new reality of global mobility are thriving, and their citizens are enjoying increasing power and freedom of travel, as well as the many benefits that come with it,” said Dominic Wolek, head of Henley & Partners in Southeast Asia.

However, the report notes that when it comes to freedom of travel, the gap between countries is widening, and this gap in mobility is now the largest since the index was created in 2006.
The holder of a Japanese passport can freely visit 165 destinations more than the holder of the weakest passport in the world - the Afghan one, which offers visa-free access or a visa upon arrival at only 26 destinations.
Israel in the new index took 25th place - with a passport of this country you can visit without visas 159 world destinations. Ukraine took the 43rd place in the ranking with the possibility of visa-free or visa-based access upon arrival to 128 countries of the world, the Russian Federation at 51 positions with 118 destinations, Belarus was at 68th place with the opportunity to visit 75 countries without a visa.
