Neighbors and activists in Tennessee joined hands, preventing ICE employees from arresting their father without documents and his 12-year-old son.

The video captured on a mobile phone captured a controversial moment when friends and activists held hands so that father and son could run inside their home in Forest Ridge in Nashville.

According to the witnesses, the man and his son drove onto the driveway around 8 in the morning, on Monday, July 22, when ICE officers stopped behind them.

After a four-hour standoff, the man and his son refused to leave the van. It is reported that the agents threatened and even offered to pay them to leave.

“You’ll have to get out eventually,” the agent said.

Neighbors reported that the agents were driving a regular pickup truck that patrolled the area for about two weeks.

"They said, 'If you don't come out, we will arrest you and your 12-year-old son,'" said local lawyer Daniel Ayadeyon. “It’s just illegal, it’s wrong.”

Several neighbors and activists decided to broadcast live on social networks, calling on others to help the suspected undocumented person and his son.

ICE officials called the local police to help control the situation, but Nashville mayor David Brila said , that city officials "are not actively involved in the enforcement of immigration rules and serve only as peacekeepers."

“Officers responded to the scene to protect neighbors and secure the perimeter,” the mayor continued. “I am acutely aware that this type of activity by our federal government creates fear and mistrust in our most vulnerable communities, which is why we are not using local resources to enforce ICE orders.”

The confrontation lasted more than four hours, during which activists and neighbors arrived to help the father and son. Some brought water and sandwiches, and even filled their gas tank so that they could keep the air conditioner running.

"They're not bothering anyone and it's illegal," one witness said during the meeting.

“I’ve known these people for 14 years,” added another neighbor, Felishade Young. “It’s sad to see children being separated from their parents.”

Tristan Cal, a volunteer from a progressive advocacy group known as Movements Including X, broadcast this meeting on Facebook.

“You come and try to detain people. I’m trying to understand who you are and why you’re here,” Call tells ICE officers during the video.

“We’re just doing our job here,” the officer replies. “You can stand there and shoot whatever you want.” I don't need to answer your questions."

ICE agents eventually left with nothing.

After they left, a group of 10 witnesses joined hands, forming a human chain that allowed father and son to enter the house.

The activists did the same thing later so that two could get into the car and leave the dwelling.
