The US Federal Bureau of Investigation has arrested an American soldier. He is suspected, in particular, of publishing instructions on the manufacture of explosive devices in social networks, writes Air Force

The detainee's name is Jarrett William Smith. According to law enforcement officers, he allegedly offered to attack the office of one of the leading American media, and also expressed a desire to fight for ultra-right groups in Ukraine.

24-year-old Smith, who is a first-class private, also allegedly offered to kill supporters of the Antifa movement.

The FBI says that since 2016, he also had contacts with another American, Craig Lang, who traveled to Ukraine to fight for the Right Sector.

They talked on Facebook, and Smith, in particular, asked Lang for advice on the manufacture of explosive devices.

“I was looking for other radicals”

During his correspondence with the man who eventually passed this information on to the FBI, Smith discussed building a large "vehicle bomb" to attack the offices of one of America's leading media outlets.

Two sources familiar with this issue say that Smith aimed at CNN.

Jeff Zucker, president of CNN and chairman of WarnerMedia News and Sports, told staff members that there was no immediate threat to the organization.

“I want to assure everyone that there was never an immediate threat to CNN,” he said in an email. “We continue to actively monitor these issues on a daily basis and are working closely with our security professionals around the world and our law enforcement partners.”

During one of the conversations, the name of the representative of the US Democratic Party, Beta O'Rourke, also surfaced.

So, when an FBI informant asked Smith if there was anyone in the state of Texas who deserved to be attacked, he replied: “Other than Beta? I don’t know many people whose death would make such a difference.”

In August, Smith also wrote to an FBI informant saying he was looking for radicals like himself.

Two days later, he was already telling information about how to create a bomb from improvised materials. In particular, he gave instructions on the creation of an explosive device, driven by a mobile phone.

In the event that Smith's guilt is proved, he faces up to 20 years in prison.

This is not the first time that an American wanted to leave to fight in Ukraine.
