The dog ate $4000: the owners had to launder the money - literally

A US couple literally had to launder money after their pet dog gobbled up $4000, reports USAToday.

“This is Cecil. “He never did anything wrong in his life until he ate $4000,” his owner Carrie Lowe captioned her Instagram video. The story has received more than 14 likes and nearly 178 million views since it was posted on December 000th. The video shows Cecil and the money he ate.

Cecil, a 4000-year-old goldendoodle, gobbled up $XNUMX in cash his owners, Clayton Lowe and his wife Carrie, withdrew from their savings account.

The incident occurred in Pennsylvania in December 2023. It happened shortly after the couple brought the money home and left it on the kitchen counter. Cecil managed to remove the unattended bills within half an hour.

According to Clayton, Cecil swallowed about half the amount and tore up the rest of the notes.

“I was shocked,” Clayton said. - This doesn't look like him at all. He didn't even eat food from the coffee table. We're just in shock."

Cecil's mischievous act quickly went viral with scores of likes and comments after the video was uploaded to Instagram. One user joked that the digested money was "the puzzle no one wanted to solve this Christmas."

“I almost had a heart attack,” the dog’s owner admitted.

Her husband discovered the missing money and a gluttonous thief. The couple quickly contacted their veterinarian, who advised him to monitor Cecil at home.

“We were very upset about what happened,” Clayton said. “At about two o’clock in the morning, Cecil woke us up because he was vomiting. At that moment I began to hope to see hundred dollar bills coming out.” But the miracle did not happen.

The couple had the unpleasant task of cleaning and piecing together the remains of the digested banknotes. The bank assured them that such incidents were not uncommon and that they would accept damaged bills if the serial numbers were visible.

Over the next three days, Cecil "issued" $50 and $100 bills. Each of the spouses had their own amount of work: Clayton collected feces and stood at the sink sorting out the consequences, and Carrie tried to match the serial numbers on scraps of bills and glue them together.

“We spent hours every day trying to get our money back,” Carrie explained. “We weren’t able to get everything back because by the third day the cash amounts were getting smaller.”

Despite the unpleasant procedure associated with laundering the remaining money obtained from Cecil's feces, the couple managed to recover almost the entire amount. The couple lost only $500.

“At first we were angry, but now we just laugh at the whole situation,” Clayton concluded. “When my wife posted the video on Instagram, we couldn’t believe it became so popular.”

Cecil's owners have forgiven their pet and now call him a "very fashionable guy" with "very expensive taste."

“I never thought I would be able to say: I laundered money. Obviously, there’s a first time for everything,” Carrie joked.
