You can reduce high blood pressure without drugs: natural methods were more effective than medicines
Researchers say natural ways to lower high blood pressure may be better than drugs, reports ABC7.
A blood pressure reading of 130/80 or more is considered high, and if left unchecked, it can lead to an increased risk of heart disease and stroke.
However, there are natural ways to lower blood pressure without medication. Only about one in four of the 122 million Americans with high blood pressure has their condition under control. To cope with this condition, many turn to medication.
"Medicines can be difficult to take," said Dr. Daniel Munoz, a cardiologist at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

“You reduce your chances of having a stroke in the future by about 10% to 13%,” said neurologist Dr. David Hannauer of Kaiser Permanente South Bay Medical Center.
Reducing blood pressure without medication
People overlook natural ways to lower blood pressure. First, experts recommend moving – a lot.
A Japanese study found that moderate exercise for just 30 to 60 minutes a week lowered blood pressure in people with untreated high blood pressure. Classes for 61-90 minutes further reduced this figure.

“After six months, the exercise component outweighs the benefits of drugs,” Hannauer said. Over time, regular exercise may be more effective than medication.
Further, experts recommend reducing salt intake.
Salt sensitivity occurs when the body is unable to excrete excess salt. The American Heart Association recommends no more than 2,3 grams of salt per day or less. Even moderate weight loss can bring huge results.
“If everyone in America lost 4,5 kg, the health of the nation would increase dramatically,” said Dr. William Roberts of the Baylor Heart and Vascular Institute.
The researchers found that even losing about 2 kg led to a decrease in blood pressure: after losing weight, 42% of the participants no longer had high blood pressure. Also, find ways to stress less.

“Untreated stress tends to cause high blood pressure, which then leads to an increased risk of stroke and heart attack,” Hannauer said.
While coffee may temporarily raise blood pressure, a new study shows moderate coffee drinkers have a lower risk of heart disease than non-coffee drinkers. Why? Scientists believe one factor may be that the antioxidants in coffee increase nitric oxide levels, which allows blood vessels to dilate, lowering blood pressure.
