First elections: in Florida, a woman in labor drove to a polling station on her way to the hospital

Of the more than 1300 people who voted early at the Orange County Electoral Office in Orlando, Florida on October 27, one was a woman who had contractions but wanted to vote before she went to the hospital. Writes about it Fox5.

Poll employee Karen Brincheno Gonzalez said she will never forget how a woman made her husband stop so she could vote before giving birth. A man ran up to the employee and handed her two driver's licenses, asking her to allow his wife to vote quickly.

The woman began to explain to him the process of getting the ballot.

"He said, 'She's about to have a baby, but she won't go to the hospital to have the baby until she votes.' I thought, OK, what can I do to help her vote?'” Karen recalled.

She followed the man outside to his car, where his wife was waiting.

“She was just taking one or two breaths between contractions,” the employee recalled.

She immediately began checking the pregnant woman, making sure that she had the necessary documents. Karen told the expectant mother that she needed to show up to vote on November 3rd by 19:00 p.m. In response, she demanded to fill out the ballot “right now.”

The woman voted and went to the hospital.

Gonzalez said she was happy to help on such an important day and at such a crazy time.

"I'm proud of my work and I just wanted to make sure she voted and exercised her right before she went to the hospital," she said.

A spokesman for Orange County's election observers said the woman gave birth at Wynne Palmer Hospital, which is less than four miles from their office.
