Fox News: Trump is upset about bad ratings and may withdraw from the election if his performance doesn't improve

“It’s too early to draw conclusions, but if the polls continue to deteriorate, we could see a scenario where Trump drops out of the race,” said one GOP official, who asked not to be identified.

Charles Gasparino, author of an insider text for Fox News, said in a tweet series that he had spoken to “major players” in the Republican Party on the subject. One of them described Mr. Trump’s mood as “fragile,” as his chances for a second term look increasingly vague.

Another GOP source quoted by the journalist commented on Trump's likelihood of dropping out of the race: "I bet he'll drop out if he believes it's impossible to win."

Trump has repeatedly criticized polls that show him lagging behind Biden. He wrote on Twitter last month that Fox News “must fire its fake poll author.” There has never been a good poll from Fox. ”

The president also wrote: “I am receiving very good internal data regarding my ratings. Just like in 2016, NYtimes polls are fake, FoxNews polls are a joke. Do you think they will apologize to me and their subscribers when I win again? People want law, order and security."

But surveys of all the organizations involved in this show that Trump has always lagged behind Biden. In particular, voters repeatedly expressed disapproval about how the president reacted to the pandemic and mass protests calling for racial justice after the murder of George Floyd by the police.

The same New York Times-Siena College poll found that 58% of Americans disapprove of his response to the coronavirus outbreak, while only 38% approve — the worst ratings since the crisis began.

Trump headquarters called the reports that the president is considering quitting the race “the culmination of fake news.”

“Everyone knows that media polling has always been wrong about President Trump - they undersample Republicans and likely voters in order to produce false data,” Trump campaign spokesman Tim Murtaugh said. - It won't work. It was the same in 2016, and if those polls had been correct, Hillary Clinton would be in the White House right now.”
