Media: Russian special services stole COVID-19 vaccine production technology from another country
British media, citing anonymous sources, said that Russian agents stole data on the development of the AstraZeneca vaccine from Britain. «Radio Svoboda».
The British government takes any reports of cyber attacks and theft of intellectual property "extremely seriously". This is how the representative of the British Prime Minister answered the question of whether the message was true The Sun newspapers that the agents of the Russian special services stole the formula for the production of a vaccine against coronavirus infection, developed by the company AstraZeneca.
The representative of the British Prime Minister stressed that he would not essentially comment on materials related to the work of the special services. He made no accusations against Russia.
The Sun tabloid, followed by a number of other British media outlets, reported that the British intelligence services informed members of the British government that last year a Russian agent personally stole data on the vaccine from AstraZeneca, including data on its production. which, according to the newspaper, were used to create the Russian Sputnik vaccine.
The tabloid writes that the security services say they have evidence that one of Vladimir Putin's spies stole important data, including a blueprint for developing a vaccine against COVID-19.

The Russian Sputnik vaccine uses technology similar to that developed at Oxford.
“Now the security services are confident that it was copied. It is clear that the data was stolen by a foreign agent personally,” the tabloid claims.
Both vaccines - British and Russian - are adenoviral, that is, their principle of action is similar.
At the same time, there are differences between them: in particular, unlike the Russian vaccine made on the basis of the human adenovirus, the AstraZeneca vaccine was developed on the basis of the chimpanzee adenovirus. Sputnik was registered in Russia in August last year, and AstraZeneca was registered in Britain in December.
The very development of these vaccines, however, began in the spring of 2020, shortly after the start of the pandemic.

The Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) noted that Sputnik is based on a well-studied human adenovirus platform, the effectiveness and safety of which has been proven for decades, and AstraZeneca uses a chimpanzee adenovirus vector for its vaccine.
Last year, there were reports of cyberattacks, which, according to Western intelligence services, were carried out by Russian hackers in order to obtain information about vaccines.
The Russian Direct Investment Fund commented that reports of stolen data for the production of Sputnik are “a blatant lie based on anonymous sources.”
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, when asked whether Russian spies could have stolen data about the vaccine, called The Sun an “unscientific publication.”
