Media: Putin is personally involved in hacker attacks in the US elections
Russian President Vladimir Putin “with a high degree of probability” was personally involved in the campaign to intervene in the US presidential election.
About this with reference to high-ranking sources in the American intelligence reported channel NBC News.
This information came from diplomatic and other sources, including agents who work for US allies.
Putin’s role allegedly was to manage the use of materials derived from the attacks. American intelligence suggests that Putin pursued several goals: Hillary Clinton’s revenge, as well as a desire to demonstrate corruption in American politics and disunite key American allies, creating the impression that other countries can no longer rely on the US as authoritative global leader.
“He has a vendetta against Hillary Clinton, and this has long been known, he wants to take revenge on her for what she said about the parliamentary elections in Russia in 2011. He wants to discredit American democracy and weaken us as the leader of the liberal democratic order. And, of course, he likes the views of the future President Trump in relation to Russia. Now, it seems that we have evidence confirming these hypotheses,” commented former US Ambassador to Russia (2012-2014) Michael McFaul.
He added that this behavior corresponds to the image of Putin, which has developed with him during his work in Russia and in the course of communication with him.
According to Cynthia McFadden, senior correspondent for law and investigations, it is now up to the US to answer Russia.
“The question today is: Will the United States respond directly to Putin? "US intelligence, as part of its contingency plan, dug into Putin's personal empire and concluded that his associates control assets worth about $85 billion," she said.
One former CIA employee, whom the channel did not name, also believes that the Barack Obama administration “may feel obligated to respond to such actions on the part of Russia before it leaves.”
Journalists could not receive official comments from the CIA and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.
