Media: Google founder Sergey Brin is divorcing his wife because of her affair with Elon Musk

Elon Musk had a brief affair with the wife of his longtime friend Sergey Brin, sources say, prompting the Google co-founder to file for divorce from entrepreneur Nicole Shanahan earlier this year. Independent.

The couple cited "irreconcilable differences" in a statement to the California Supreme Court in Santa Clara County in January. The documents state that the couple broke up on December 15, 2021.

The couple's divorce marks a major milestone in the life of one of the world's richest men, who continues to own a majority stake in Google after stepping out of the company's day-to-day operations in 2019.

The court documents do not specify what assets Brin and Shanahan jointly own or how they will be divided, the details of which "have to be determined."

“All matters relating to the property rights or obligations of the parties will be resolved by confidential binding arbitration in accordance with a written agreement between the parties,” the court documents say.

Sources close to the case told the Wall Street Journal that the incident took place at a party earlier this year and that while Brin accepted the apology, the two tech moguls are currently not on speaking terms.

Musk's romance with Brin's wife Nicole Shanahan began at the Art Basel Miami art show in December 2021. Sources told the magazine that Brin and Shanahan were not together at the time, but were still living in the same house and had struggled with COVID-19 and caring for their young daughter.

Brin filed for divorce in January, citing "irreconcilable differences," according to court documents. In the following months, sources said his relationship with Musk was strained, and Brin instructed his financial advisers to sell his investments in Musk's various ventures. Among them is Tesla, in which Brin invested $500 in 000.

“I hope that Sergey and I will move forward with dignity, honesty and harmony for the sake of our child. And we're both working on it," Shanahan told news site Puck.

The affair reportedly took place when Musk broke up with his girlfriend Grimes. They have two children, including a daughter who was born by a surrogate mother. A month before, in November 2021, Musk secretly gave birth to twins from one of her top executives, Shivona Zilis, said Julia Black of Insider.

Musk denied the affair in a series of tweets.

“This is complete crap. Sergey and I are friends and last night we were at a party together! I only saw Nicole twice in three years, both times in the company of many other people. Nothing romantic,” Musk wrote.

In a subsequent tweet, Musk added, "I haven't had sex in ages."

News of the case comes as Musk faces a number of public professional issues, including a controversial legal battle with Twitter after the Tesla CEO backed out of his $44 billion deal to buy the social media platform.

His electric vehicle company is facing an intensified federal investigation over its autopilot system, which has been involved in at least 16 crashes that have left 15 people injured and one dead.

Musk has denied accusations of harassing a flight attendant on a private jet.

One of his 10 children also publicly disowned him. His 18-year-old transgender daughter legally changed her name to disassociate herself from Musk, according to legal documents reported last month.
