Media: hackers got access to personal data of US military and intelligence officers
China-related hackers who hacked into the computers of the US government gained access to personal information about US military and intelligence officials. This was reported on Friday by the Associated Press.
In particular, the attackers got into the hands of data from questionnaires that military and intelligence officers undertake to fill out and hand over if they are given access to classified information. These documents contain, among other things, secret and “extremely personal information about the candidates’ illnesses, psychological disorders, alcohol and drug addiction, data on their arrests” and prosecution, writes AP. As the agency notes, the questionnaires also contain information about the social security numbers of workers and their spouses or cohabitants, as well as lists of their immediate relatives.
5 June became aware of that hackers managed to gain access to government personnel office data USA over the past 30 years. American officials then told reporters that cybercriminals had stolen “data that goes back to 1985.” As officials emphasized, “this means that they (the hackers) potentially have information about retirees and can find out what they did after leaving the government.”
According to investigators, the unauthorized entry into the data banks of the government personnel officers occurred in December last year. It is assumed that the result was access to personal information of about 4 million people, which was the largest such incident in the United States in recent years. Responsibility for this incident Washington put on hackers associated with the authorities of China. China has rejected accusations of the next cyber attack.
