Deadly cold: the weather makes it difficult to eliminate the effects of the Alaska earthquake

Although the weather in Anchorage, Alaska is warmer than usual, and the air is not so cold, daylight is becoming less and less likely to cause problems - residents and visitors of the city are still experiencing the effects of the devastating 7 magnitude earthquake on Friday.

During the earthquake in many areas there were problems with energy supply - to date, in most of the houses it has been restored.

During 12 hours after the earthquake, more than 100 aftershocks were recorded in the affected area. Governor Bill Walker announced a state of emergency in Alaska, classes were canceled in Anchorage schools.

Vodokanal Anchorage issued a warning about the need to boil water because of previous breakthroughs. However, it was noted that this is a precaution, since no problems with water pollution were detected.

One way or another, the situation may worsen if the weather in the city is typical for the beginning of December. At this time of the year, thermometer bars at night usually show around –26 degrees. This can lead to the fact that roads, cars and buildings around highways can literally be shackled into ice.

However, according to the meteorologist Dave Samukhel, the good news is that severe frosts are not expected in the near future - the temperature during the week will stay slightly above normal.

Despite this, the air is expected to be cold enough. On Monday there is slush on the roads, flights of airlines with early morning departures to / from Anchorage may be delayed.

At the beginning of the week, weather conditions will help clean up the streets. However, regardless of the weather, a short daylight hours imposes its own limitations - public utilities may need special searchlights.

In early December, sunlight will pamper Anchorage no more than 6 hours per day.
