Deadly threat: a large batch of hand sanitizer is being withdrawn in the US
About 19 bottles of hand sanitizer sold nationwide are withdrawn due to the potential for toxic substances. The product is used as a sanitizer and moisturizer for hands. Fox Business.
According to communicationpublished by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Monday, July 6, liter bottles with ITECH 361 All Clean Hand Sanitizer, Moisturizer and Disinfectant may contain methanol, which can be poisonous skin or inside.
The product is packaged in plastic bottles with UPC code 628055370130, according to the FDA.
A FDA warning states that significant exposure to a toxic chemical can cause nausea, vomiting, headache, blurred vision, permanent blindness, cramps, coma, permanent damage to the nervous system or death.
"Although all people who use these products on their hands are at risk, young children who accidentally ingest these products, as well as teenagers and adults who drink these products as a substitute for alcohol (ethanol), are at greatest risk of methanol poisoning." , the agency said.
To date, ITECH 361 has not received any reports of side effects associated with the affected products. Currently, the company is also notifying its distributors and organizing a refund / replacement of all recalled products, according to the FDA.

The agency recently warned consumers that it had “a sharp increase in hand sanitizers that are labeled as containing ethanol (also known as ethanol), but with a positive result for methanol contamination."
As a result, the agency published list of over a dozen productswhich were tested by the FDA and found to contain methanol. 18 products have been recalled by either the manufacturer or distributor, in accordance with the latest FDA update.
The FDA says methanol should not be used in hand sanitizers because of its toxicity, and consumers who are exposed should immediately seek medical attention.
Anyone who has the above disinfectants should return them at the place of purchase. Consumers can contact the company for further instructions, as well as consult a doctor if they have any problems with this product, the FDA said.
