Deadly fungal infection spreads rapidly in the US

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports the spread of nosocomial infection, which so far has nothing to treat. The causative agent is a fungus Candida auriswhich causes death in 60% infection cases.

According to the CDC, the disease was recorded in 53 people, and 27 healthy people were carriers Candida auris. Most of the victims live in the state of New York.

The fungus causes bleeding wounds and contributes to the complete cessation of the functioning of the associated organ. Victims usually Candida auris - These are patients with a weakened immune system due to diabetes mellitus, dialysis, or after organ transplantation. The fungus is virtually no danger to a healthy person, but it can become its carrier. Infection occurs in a medical facility where a sick person is in contact with a healthy one.

The birthplace of the fungus is Japan, where it was first discovered in 2009. In the 2013 year, 13 cases of infection with a fungal infection were reported in the United States. After that, the incidence increased in 3 times.

Scientists are engaged in the development of antifungal drugs, but due to the fact that the metabolism of both is very similar, toxic substances are dangerous for both the fungus and man. This makes it difficult to develop drugs against Candida auris.
