Service of the Russians in the armies of unfriendly countries equate to treason

A member of the United Russia party, Evgeny Fedorov, is preparing amendments to the law, the essence of which is to recognize serving in the armies of countries that are pursuing an unfriendly policy towards Russia as high treason.

“For this type of crime, we plan to set a term of imprisonment of ten years, although the article itself suggests terms of twelve to twenty years,” Fedorov noted.

In order not to fall under criminal prosecution in their homeland, Russian military legionnaires will have to resign from the armies of states that conduct an aggressive policy towards Russia.

The parliamentarian noted that the countries whose activities are directed against Russia today are those that impose sanctions against our state.

The US Army today is fully formed from volunteers through recruiting centers. Enroll in the service can only US citizens or foreigners possessing a Green Card. At the same time, there is evidence that among these foreign military personnel of the US Army one can meet Russian citizens.

In the army of Spain, which, as a member of the EU, has applied sanctions against Russia, there is a practice of attracting foreigners into the ranks of the country's armed forces. In 2012, the Spanish Ministry of Defense brought the number of foreigners in the army to ten percent.

Traditionally, many Russian military specialists serve in the French Foreign Legion, which is part of the French ground forces and has been actively engaged in attracting Russians to serve in their ranks for a quarter of a century.

In open access to the Internet, it is not particularly difficult to find specialized Russian-language forums in which users discuss the prospects for joining the US Army or the French Foreign Legion.

In addition, in Ukraine, which has recently passed many bills and decrees, in early May, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a bill authorizing foreigners to serve in the country's armed forces. Even before the adoption of this law, participation of Russian youth was noted in separate Ukrainian battalions.
