How much time do residents of large cities spend in transport?
Chicago residents spend more time traveling to and from work than people living in other major US cities.
This is evidenced by research data AutoAccessoriesGarage.com.
Chicagoans on average spend 32,4 minutes to travel one way between home and work. That is, on average, a Chicago resident spends more than an hour in transport (driving his car, on the bus, subway, etc.). With the 5-day work week, it turns out that over the year Chicagoans spend more than 280 hours in transport (almost 12 days), and this applies only to commuting and back.
In second place in terms of length of stay in transport were residents of Philadelphia (31,2 minutes one way), on the third - New York (29,5 minutes). Miami and Los Angeles are also in the top five cities with long journeys to the office, showing 29,5 minutes and 28,9 minutes, respectively.
The average travel time from home to work in the US is 25,5 minutes.
Least travel time is spent by residents of such cities.:
- Omaha, Nebraska (18,4 minutes);
- Wichita, KS (18,5 minutes);
- Tulsa, Oklahoma (18,6 minutes);
- Nashville, Tennessee (19,6 minutes);
- Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (19,7 minutes).
If we estimate the length of stay in transport by state, then Maryland is the “slowest” (its residents spend 31,9 minutes on a one-way trip - from home to work or vice versa), followed by New Jersey (30,1 minutes), West Virginia ( 30 minutes), Virginia (28,6 minutes) and Louisiana (28,5 minutes).
Alaska turned out to be the “fastest” state - it takes only 11 minutes to get to the office from work.
