Living in San Francisco costs 92,9% more than the US average, while living in Manhattan is even more expensive - 138,6% more than the national average.

Edition CNBC calculated the minimum amount needed to meet their basic needs in the ten most expensive US cities.

The calculations take into account food and other traditional regular expenses of families, as well as spending on child care and medical insurance. These figures are the minimum necessary for a family consisting of two adults and one child, and do not include the cost of food in restaurants, holidays and any investment or savings.
