“They said they would handcuff him”: United passenger was escorted out of first class with threats

President of the investment company TriPacific Capital Advisors Jeff Firns spoke about the inappropriate behavior of airline employees United Airlines.

The 59-year-old man was taken out of a first-class aircraft, threatening to use force and handcuffs, reports LA Times.

In early April, Firns was returning from Hawaii to Los Angeles, California, and bought a first class ticket for a thousand dollars. He went to the cabin and was already enjoying a welcome glass of orange juice when the crew asked him to leave.

When asked about the reasons for such a decision, he was told that the flight was full.

“Then they said they needed to make room for someone more important who arrived at the last minute. They explained that they have a priority list of passengers, and this person is higher on it than me,” told Firns.

He tried to ignore the requirement to leave the board, but he was threatened with handcuffs. Most likely, the reason for the situation was the overlay in the schedule United, because of what the plane was smaller and with fewer seats in the first class.

In the case of overbooking, the rules of the airline order to give seats to passengers who have flown more miles with it.

“I understand that they can turn people away because the plane is full. But they didn't say anything upon boarding. I was already in the chair. And after that they told me that I had no choice. They said they would handcuff me if necessary." told Firns.

He was moved to an economy class, sitting in the middle seat between the two spouses, who had quarreled shortly before the flight and did not want to sit together. All 6 hours of flight, they quarreled with each other.

After the flight, Jeff consulted with his lawyer and wrote in United the letter demanding reimbursement of the cost of the flight, as well as the moral damage caused to it by a charitable transfer in the amount of $ 25 thousand to the account of the organization of its choice.

However, the response letter contained only words of regret for the incident and the refusal of any kind of compensation. Later, Firns was offered to compensate for the difference in the cost of first-class and economic tickets and gave him a $ 500 voucher for the next flight.

This is not the first like withflight shackle United Airlines: 9 April the passenger was forcibly taken out of the plane after landing, which caused a scandal in social networks and $ 750 million financial losses of the company due to the fall in the value of its shares.
