States where the minimum wage is raised in 2019
According to a new report from the National Employment Law Project, in 2019, more than 20 states will increase their minimum wages, and about 17 million workers can benefit.
Workers in Massachusetts will earn $12 an hour instead of $11. In Maine it's $11 instead of $10.
In the next few years, wages will continue to grow throughout the country. The Institute for Economic Policy has determined that about 40 million workers will receive a minimum wage of $ 15.
“Minimum wage workers need higher wages to allow them to meet their basic needs,” said Yannette Lathrop, a researcher at the National Employment Law Project. “A higher minimum wage could also help close the income gap, which has been growing wider and wider over the past couple of decades.”
