Spinach with Salmonella: US Recalls Popular Product Due to Health Threat
Dole withdraws two different types of spinach due to the potential risk of salmonella infection.

On August 9, the company announced the recall of Dole Baby Spinach in 6 and 10 ounce packages. Both products have an expiration date of August 5 to 2019, but customers could put spinach in the freezer, so there is a risk of eating it even after this date.

These products were sold in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia, and Wisconsin. 6 ounce packages subject to recall contain the W20308A lot code and 0-71430-00964-2 UPC code, and 10 ounce packages have the W203010 lot code and UPC 0-71430-00016-8 code.

No diseases were recorded in connection with the use of recalled spinach. Since the product has already expired, it should not be in stores.
The recall was announced after the Department of Agriculture conducted an analysis of spinach during a spot check and the sample showed the presence of salmonella.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Salmonella causes about 1,2 million diseases, 23 000 hospital admissions, and 450 deaths in the United States every year.

The main symptoms of salmonellosis are diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever, which usually appear 12-72 hours after eating contaminated food. The disease usually lasts from four to seven days.
Other Dole products are not included in the recall. Anyone with questions can call the Dole Consumer Support Center at: 1-800-356-3111.
