Luxury VIP resort on the water: new cruise ship arrives in Miami
"Floating Seven-Star Resort": Ultra-luxury cruise ship turns Miami into her home, reports MiamiHerald.
Seabourn Ovation, part of the ultra-luxury cruise brand Carnival Corporation, has a new home in Miami for the winter cruise season.
This is the first high-end cruise ship with an average cost of suites of $ 1000 per day, set sail from Miami.
The ship was completed in May 2018 with the intention of being based outside Australia during the winter months.
But the pandemic changed those plans.
“With Australia and much of Asia still closed, we decided to base the ship in Miami for this winter – it is the cruise capital of the world, after all,” said Josh Leibowitz, president of Seabourn.
The Seabourn Ovation travels to faraway destinations such as Patagonia, the Baltics, the Arctic and up the Amazon River, but takes two routes in North America as many international travel restrictions still apply.
The ship's winter cruise routes include a one-way cruise to Los Angeles passing through the Panama Canal and a Caribbean itinerary that starts and ends in Miami.
The cost of a standard suite with a veranda ranges from $ 4929 for an 11-day Caribbean cruise to $ 17000 for a Caribbean and Mexico cruise through the Panama Canal.
The 210-meter ship has just 300 suites for 600 passengers, making it one of the highest space-per-guest ratios on cruises.
Each suite has its own veranda: standard suites are 23 square meters, penthouse suites up to 50 square meters, and a veranda up to 18 square meters with amenities such as bath and dressing room.
The largest suite on board offers 121 square meters of interior space.
“This is a floating seven-star resort. We have almost one crew member for every guest,” Leibowitz said, adding that Seabourn Ovation is the first luxury cruise brand to resume operations after the pandemic, attracting customers who had traveled with other brands.
There is coffee and homemade ice cream on the ship.
There's a grill menu from famed chef Thomas Keller, who is also behind the Surfside surf club and several Michelin-starred restaurants in the US, and a sushi bar with ingredients from Japan including premium wines, champagne and liqueurs.
The ship has partnered with world renowned writer Sir Tim Rice for entertainment and renowned Dr. Andrew Weil for spa services.

Deck 12 features a hot tub surrounded by 15 semi-open private cabanas with TV, refrigerator and ceiling fan, and some boast spa services.
At the port, one of the lower decks of the ship opens up to become a “marina” where guests can bring along a variety of boats and water toys such as kayaks, kayaks and catamarans.
Zodiac boats offer guests the opportunity to sightseeing, as well as water skiing, banana boat trips and tubing.
Seabourn Ovation resumed its flight in July 2021 and requires all passengers to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test within 48 hours of landing.
“There is no such thing as COVID zero,” Leibowitz said when asked about cruise safety.
"But if you're going to live your life now, the best thing you can do is follow all the CDC recommendations," he added.
