The United States imposed sanctions against Russia because of interference in elections and cyber attacks

Trump administration has introduced new sanctions against Russia, designed to punish the country for its "interference" in the American elections in 2016, writes CNN.

Russia will also be punished for attempting to invade the US energy network and other large cyber attacks.

The sectional list included the Internet Investigation Agency, known as the "troll factory", which during the presidential election of 2016 of the year published political posts on American social networks. The list included businessman Yevgeny Prigogine, who financed the "trolley factory" and is a friend of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

In turn, Prigogine said the publication RIA Newsthat he is not worried about being included in the new US sanctions list - he has no business related to the US, and in return he will not go to McDonald's.

The sanctions also included 13 people, who were previously accused by US special prosecutor Robert Muller of interfering with the elections.

“The Administration is confronting and countering malicious Russian cyber activity, including their attempt to interfere in U.S. elections and devastating cyberattacks targeting infrastructure,” said U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin.

In total, 5 enterprises and 19 individuals, including FSB and GRU officers, fell under the US sanctions.

Those who fall under sanctions are prohibited from entering the US and all their assets in America are frozen.

It is noted that the Trump administration should have signed this document a month and a half ago. The delay was seen as Trump’s reluctance to punish Russia for interfering in elections. Congressmen expressed their disappointment that their law, adopted almost unanimously, was not adopted by the president.
