North Korea warns US 'Christmas present'
North Korea's Foreign Ministry warned that Washington would receive a "Christmas present" from Pyongyang.
This statement was made by First Deputy Foreign Minister of the DPRK Ri Tae Son, who accused the United States of delaying negotiations on denuclearization and of American politicians using these negotiations for their own purposes, writes “Interfax«.
“Dialogue (on denuclearization. - Ed.), advertised by the United States, is essentially nothing more than a stupid trick created in order to drag the DPRK into this dialogue and use it for political purposes, as well as during the election campaign in the United States,” said Ri Tae Son.
“It is entirely up to the United States what kind of Christmas gift (from North Korea. - Ed.) they will want to receive it,” the diplomat added.
The South Korean agency Yonhap interprets the words of the deputy minister as a threat to resume testing of nuclear weapons and intercontinental ballistic missiles if the US does not put forward new proposals for negotiations with the DPRK before the end of the year.
A few hours after Ri Tae Sung's statements, US Special Representative for North Korea Stephen Bigan assured that Washington did not intend to refuse negotiations with Pyongyang on the issue of nuclear disarmament.

Biegun acknowledged that working toward North Korea's denuclearization has been "hard work" for Washington.
“Obviously, we have not made the progress we hoped for, but let me be clear: we have not given up and will not give up what we are doing,” the US special envoy assured.
In October, DPRK Foreign Ministry adviser Kim Ge Gwan announced that denuclearization negotiations between North Korea and the United States are still possible, but that everything will depend on what decision the States will make before the end of the 2019 year.
“There is a will, there is a way. We want to see how wisely the US will handle the end of the year,” said Kim Kye-gwan.
He said he hoped the "special" relationship between North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and US President Donald Trump would create a "driving force" to address future challenges between the two countries.
In early October, working-level negotiations on denuclearization between the DPRK and the United States broke down in the Swedish capital. Pyongyang accused Washington of failing to come up with a new proposal. However, the US said both sides had “good” discussions.
