The motel network will pay $ 12 million for denunciations to ICE guests
The 6 network agreed to pay 12 millions of dollars to settle a legal claim in a lawsuit filed in the interests of 80 000 motel guests. The Washington State Attorney General said the network regularly provides guest lists to US immigration and customs police (ICE) agents.

Attorney General Bob Ferguson said that the money will be used as compensation for the damage to 80 000 people who stayed at 2015 to 2017 for a year at seven locations in Washington, DC Irish Times.
According to him, the privacy rights of these people were violated, since Motel 6 passed personal information to ICE without their knowledge. At least nine Washington residents were detained as a result of these actions.
According to Ferguson, within the framework of the settlement, the Motel 6 network also agreed to no longer transmit information about the guests in the absence of a warrant or other legal document obliging them to do so. The company will also conduct staff training with new information.
Representatives of Motel 6 stated: "The safety of our guests, including the protection of information about them, is our top priority."
The settlement comes five months after Motel 6 agreed to a $7,6 million settlement for similar claims in a class action lawsuit in Arizona.
The 6 network is controlled by a private investment firm, Blackstone Group, which bought the brand in 2012.
