The US Senate has tightened sanctions against Russia
The Senate of the US Congress passed a law to tighten unilateral American sanctions against Russia, Iran and the DPRK.
According to the TASS news agency, voting continues at the moment, but the legislative initiative has already gained enough votes for approval.
Once approved by the Senate, a document called the Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act will land on US President Donald Trump's desk. The US President has the right to veto this document.
Earlier it was reported that the law prohibits US companies and individuals from lending to Russian banks for more than 14 days. Until now, this period was 90 days. In addition, it is proposed to limit the timing of financing Russian companies in the oil and gas sector. The loan period will be set for them in 30 days.
Note that the Russian edition of Kommersant, citing sources in the Russian Foreign Ministry, reported that if Trump signs this law, then Moscow will take retaliatory measures. Such a measure, according to the publication, is likely to be the expulsion of a number of American diplomats and a significant limitation of the number of employees of the US embassy.
