The Senate has published a report on Russia's intervention in US elections: key findings

Senate Intelligence Committee published unclassified part of the report about the investigation of Russia's interference in the US presidential election in 2016 year.

It follows from the document that the Russian Federation tried to undermine the faith of society in the democratic processes in the United States, to slander former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, thereby reducing her chances of taking the presidency.

The report states that the full report on Russia's activity during the American election campaign of 2016 is a completely secret document, because along with evidence it mentions sources of information and methods of analytical and counterintelligence work of the American special services.

The non-secret part contains mainly the findings of the investigation without explaining how they were received.

Senators believe that the operation to interfere in the elections “with a high degree of probability” was launched on the personal order of Russian President Vladimir Putin. The document clarifies that all US intelligence agencies - the CIA, FBI and NSA - are unanimous in the opinion that Putin and the Russian government acted to increase the chances of Donald Trump becoming president of the United States, for which they tried to harm Clinton.

The investigation established that the operation to influence the election results was well coordinated and included several components. Separately, the report mentions the publication on the website WikiLeaks materials that were extracted by Russian hackers as a result of cyber attacks on the servers of the Democratic Party. The drafters noted that the merged WikiLeaks The materials do not contain evidence of falsification or fraud on the part of the Democratic leadership, but they negatively affected the image of Hillary Clinton during the elections.

But in the end, according to the committee, all these efforts of Russia had no effect on the final result of the vote.

“The committee did not see any evidence that the number of votes and their distribution had changed,” the document says.

Nevertheless, the investigation continues, the final version of the report will be presented in August 2018.

The Senate fears that "Moscow will learn from the campaign organized by Putin aimed at the United States for future influence on elections all over the world, including against American allies."
