Seven of 20 people were dropped from the plane because of a run down face mask

A family of 20, including 10 children, was removed from an American Airlines flight departing from Salt Lake City, Utah, after a passenger's face mask dropped below the nose. Writes about it Dailymail.

The incident happened just as an American Airlines flight was due to leave Salt Lake City for Dallas, Texas on Sunday, January 24th.

According to Scott Wilson, he and his 19 relatives boarded the plane when a family member's mask momentarily slipped under his nose, he quickly straightened it.

Moments later, a crew member said they needed to get off the plane.

“No one even really talked to us,” he explained.

Wilson said the agent at the entrance left and then returned and informed him that the crew wanted the entire family to leave the flight.

"He said, 'Sorry, it has to be the whole family,'" Wilson said.

All 10 adults and 10 children, ages 3 to 13, left the plane, but they said the family was supported by other passengers.

"We actually had a couple of families around us who stood up and said, 'This is wrong,'" Wilson said.

A witness to the incident said the family followed the rules for using face masks and that the gate dispatcher made the mistake of removing them from the flight.

The witness claimed that he tried to talk to the airline personnel in the hope of overturning the decision, but to no avail.

Luckily, other controllers at the Salt Lake City airport sympathized with the family, so they arranged for them to board other American, United and Delta flights to their final destination of Hawaii.

“They were furious,” Wilson noted of the gate controllers who overbooked their tickets.

“They got mad at the first dispatcher and said, 'He's in trouble, you guys didn't do anything wrong. We have never seen anything like this before. We’ve never had a situation like this, and he was completely wrong,” Wilson relayed the words of the second dispatcher.

In a statement, the airline said: “On Sunday, January 24, passengers flying American Airlines Flight 1214 from Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) reportedly did not comply with mandatory carrying rules. face masks that require masks to be properly worn on the nose and mouth. "

“As per procedure, the customers involved were asked to leave the aircraft prior to departure and the flight departed for DFW shortly thereafter.
