A family of Russian-speaking immigrants was caught in a shootout: a woman and a small child were wounded
According to police, on the evening of June 31 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, a Russian-speaking family was attacked. The incident happened around 9 p.m. on the 4500 block of Oakland Avenue in the Oak Hill neighborhood. The woman and child told investigators they were about to get out of the car and heard gunshots before they were both hit. An ambulance took both victims to the hospital. The community of the Russian Orthodox Church announced a fundraiser in support of the affected family on the portal Go fund me.
The Zhdanov family, consisting of four people, recently moved to the United States. The Zhdanovs are active members of the Russian Orthodox church community.
“During the trip, the Zhdanovs had to stop overnight to rest after a long day of driving,” the website describes the misfortune that befell the family. — When they parked, an unknown car drove up to them, and they opened fire from there. The Zhdanovs had never seen these people before or communicated with them.”

Fortunately, the body of the car stopped most of the bullets, but some penetrated the metal. Nina Zhdanova and her 7-year-old son Ivan were wounded, both in the legs. The child suffered serious leg injuries.
The woman underwent surgery, but one bullet remained in her leg. The boy's health situation was critical. Surgeons first had to reconstruct his blood vessels due to significant blood loss. Since then, he has undergone several more operations that saved his life. For now, mother and son remain in the hospital. Doctors are currently working on how to reconstruct the child's lower legs. This means that Ivan will have several more complex operations.

The community is asking for help for the affected family to pay their mounting medical bills. Additionally, the Zhdanovs lost their car in the incident and need help getting back to Orlando from Tennessee. Unfortunately, the chances of catching the criminals are slim since they fled the scene.
