The family figured out how to get in touch with the grandmother after the hurricane
Family members living in 3 states ordered a pizza for her grandmother in Florida to make sure she’s fine after Hurricane Matthew.
Eric Olsen from Omaha, Nebraska told ABC News that he was very worried when he was unable to reach his 87-year-old grandmother, Claire Olsen, who lives in Palm Cell, Florida after Hurricane Matthew.
“I spoke to her on Friday morning when her power went out. She told me, 'It's a nightmare,' and then we didn't hear from her for 2 days." He added: “I called the police department and the sheriff's office, but no one answered. I started to worry even more."
The grandson approached his problem creatively. He decided to order her a pizza - and if it was delivered, it would mean that the grandmother was alive.
Eric wrote a request to contact him as soon as the pizza is delivered to the address indicated. Then he asked the man who delivered the pizza to give his phone to his grandmother so that he could make sure that she was fine.
Eric said that when he heard the voice of his grandmother, he felt relieved.
He added: “People ask why I didn’t call the police and ask them to check on my grandmother, but I did. Believe me, pizza delivery was the last chance.”
There are no relatives nearby who could visit the grandmother. Eric himself lives in Nebraska, his father lives in South Dakota, and his sister lives in Los Angeles.
