Seven castles near New York, which are worth seeing
The state of New York has a rich history that they are able to cherish here. Therefore, near New York you can find many interesting castles, filled with stories and charm of antiquity.
Edition Kid101 collected a list of such places.
1. Belvedere Castle
Address: Central Park, 79th St, New York, NY 10021
This mini-castle was built in the 1872 year without a specific purpose, simply as an ornament. It is located in Central Park, giving children a glimpse of a fairytale castle, without leaving Manhattan. The building combines Gothic and Romanesque elements, it houses exhibition halls and an observation deck, from which there is a beautiful view of Central Park.
2. Mountain house on the lake Mohonk
Address: 1000 Mountain Rest Rd, New Paltz, NY 12561
This all-inclusive resort is located in a Victorian castle located on a cliff overlooking Lake Mohonk. The building contains all the fabulous elements of the castle, as well as a huge number of services and entertainment available at any time of the year.
3. Highlands Castle
Address: Highlands Castle, Bolton Landing, NY 12814
This is a private residence, but the castle is rented for weddings, family events or vacations. The building can accommodate up to 40 guests, although the beds in the castle are only 14. Having rented a building, guests can use its kitchen, as well as organize lunches on the terrace, which offers enchanting views.
4. Bedford Armory
Address: 1579 Bedford Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11225
Built between 1891 and 1895 in the Romanesque style, the armory has two towers, parapets and a unique brickwork. Although this does not quite correspond to the concept of a fairytale castle, it is still worth paying attention to this object if you are looking for an interesting place to relax.
5. The Armory Park Sloop
Address: 361 15th St, Brooklyn, NY 11215
This building was built in the 1890-ies, and is now used as a recreational and educational center with basketball courts, training tracks and a stadium. Yoga classes are held here, as well as sports, literary events and much more.
6. Rockefeller Family Home
Address: 381 N Broadway, Sleepy Hollow, NY 10591
Built on top of a hill, this building was home to four generations of the Rockefeller family, and is now a historical and cultural monument to the country. House tours cover the main rooms of a six-story mansion, magnificent terraced gardens with a unique collection of sculptures, including works by Pablo Picasso, Henry Moore, Louise Nevelson and others. You will also see underground art galleries with original works by world-famous artists.
7. Vanderbilt Mansion
Address: 180 Little Neck Rd, Centerport, NY 11721
The Vanderbilt Museum is located on the territory of the former William Vanderbilt estate on the north coast of Long Island. Here visitors can stroll along the beautiful promenade, admire the mansion built in the fascinating style of the Spanish Renaissance, enjoy the galleries of the Maritime Museum and see the real Egyptian mummy.
