'Bills came for months': a tourist broke a nail in the USA and gave thousands for treatment

A traveler from Australia broke her nail during a vacation in America and paid 2,5 thousands of dollars for his treatment. For several months, she received bills with new and new amounts.

32-year-old Rachel Minaway went on holiday to Honolulu (Hawaii) with a friend. As soon as the girls arrived on the island, they immediately drove by car to the beach. When Minaue parked the car, she climbed up to clean the navigator in the glove compartment and pinched the nail, writes Lenta.ru report with reference to News.com.au.

“I did not attach any importance to this, because it happens to us all the time,” she recalls.

However, later the Australian's finger was numb, and her friends decided that it was worth going to the hospital.

“We found a medical center in the navigator and went there. When we drove up, the pain had already intensified. I thought that the doctors would just tell me what to do with it, ”said the tourist.

The doctor advised to remove the nail, and the girl agreed. According to Minaue, the procedure didn’t look serious: it lasted no more than 30 minutes, and during it her friends laughed and took pictures. However, when the tourist went to the front desk to pay, she was billed for 1200 dollars.

Minaue paid for the treatment, because the health workers would not have allowed her to leave just like that. When the girl returned home to Sydney, other accounts from the Hawaiian hospital began to arrive at her postal address. In total, she needed to pay around 2500 dollars.

“They continued to find some new things to bill me for them. A few months later I was sorry that I left them my real address. Then I was six months pregnant and with horror imagined that if it were not for insurance, I would have had to pay for all this myself, ”shared Minaaway.

Australian insurance company was able to cover all the costs of medical services and also warned future tourists that in the US medicine can be very expensive.
